Ladies Circle
The Choir is fortunate to have the support of an enthusiastic group of ladies known as the ‘Ladies Circle’. Formed in 1970, their aims remain unchanged:
- Support the Choir through the involvement of wives, partners, and friends
- Enrich the social life and friendships of the Choir and their families
- Raise money for the Choir
Throughout the year, they organise events such as quiz nights, coffee mornings, and social evenings to raise funds. They also support the Choir’s fundraising efforts for its ‘Charity of the Year’, which since 2022 has been Platform1, Huddersfield. Three members, along with fifteen choir members, walked over 1,000 miles each throughout 2024 to raise funds for this worthy cause. They successfully completed the ‘Final Walk’ to the top of Victoria Jubilee Tower on Castle Hill.
The camaraderie within the choir ‘family’ is unique, and events are well-supported, sociable, entertaining, and fun for everyone attending. The social evening in particular, gives everyone the opportunity to showcase their ‘hidden talents’. It is so popular that there is a waiting list for this year’s event.
At concerts, the ladies provide refreshments, hold raffles, rattle buckets, and sell programmes. There is a regular newsletter that contains information on upcoming events of both the Ladies Circle and the Choir, as well as reports, pictures of events, and articles of interest. They also hold bi-annual lunches where the ladies meet over a good meal and a chat.
Recently, they have been pleased to welcome several ladies whose husbands or partners have joined the ever-growing number of new choir members.
