Twenty‑two bowlers took to the Meltham Sports and Community Centre greens on Sunday 31 May for this year’s Honley MVC Bowling Tournament. Cooler weather didn’t deter the fun, and the rain stayed away long enough for a full afternoon of competitive, and very close matches.
With a smaller field, round one was extended to 15 points, producing some excellent contests before round two reverted to 11. Four newcomers made their debut. The ladies’ competition was tightly fought, with just three points separating five players. Mandy Reid claimed the Ladies Champion title for the third consecutive year, finishing on 22 points.
Five men remained unbeaten after two rounds, but only four progressed. In the semis, Richard Wade defeated Andy Smith, while Andy McGrath edged Paul Farmer in a thriller. The final saw Richard and Andy produce a high‑quality contest, with Richard Wade taking the Men’s Champion title. Stephen Broadbery presented trophies to both winners.
Thanks go to Mick Pogson and the Meltham Sports and Community Centre for hosting the event and providing hearty food ahead of the closing rounds.
Special thanks to Chris Roberts and Julie Wood for their fantastic organisation, ensuring the day ran smoothly and was enjoyed by all.
